As you know, I’ve been diving into VR 360° videos lately. I’ve learned a lot but something still felt off… it was a lack of 3D sound within my VR 360° experiences making my results feel flat. To complete the experience I turned my attention to learning a new skill, ambisonic audio.
By positioning sound sources within Blender’s 3D environment and utilizing the ambisonic audio export, the resulting videos can now keep track of the sound source locations while the viewer rotates within the VR environment leading leading to a much more immersive experience.
Here’s a simple test video I published so you can experience the ambisonic audio for yourself. Of course, you will need earbuds or headphones to indulge in the full audio experience.
With that behind me I’m off to ideate on what types of experiences I can develop using these techniques.
